arthritis...
i'm pretty sure i have it. we all just got back from new york city last night, and MAN, was that trip amazing. i've never set out to do so much in four days and actually gotten it accomplished, but i did on this trip. the only thing i wish i could have done was run by the incase store. this was the most inspiring trip i've ever been on. there is so much art everywhere and fashion in new york is always great. i'm pretty sure i've never been so exhausted before in my life. we all walked until our feet were dead. the only time we really sat down was either on the subway or in our hotel. lunches and dinners were even so quick, we didn't have time to rest our feet. it was so worth it though. not a minute was wasted. to see our stint on the today show, follow this bad boy on over to their site to see us in the first twenty seconds or so. anyways, this is where the day-to-day play-by-play begins and if you don't want to read it, you don't have to. welp...here we go!
we played cards in the airport because apparently, the storm of the century hit nyc while we were scheduled to fly in. our 2:30 flight was pushed to 10pm. in the airport for 10 hours is not exactly how we wanted to start off the trip...BUT we met "the situation"...that's right, from the jersey shore. jivan's face was priceless.
finally in new york and we spotted a taxi. excitement!
this was our room. it is as big as mine and jen's room at school. no lie. it was fun though.
ray's pizza. we were accompanied by twenty drunk people yelling and being loud. one guy yelled "you're shaun!" to wes and then pointed at another guy and said "yo, shaunita in tha cornah!"
day one: went to the cooper-hewitt national design museum. personally, the ten bucks wasn't worth the two rooms of stuff they had there, but the GIFT SHOP! holy mother of god, that was the best museum gift shop i've ever been in. totally wanted this, but didn't get it. i also wanted a shirt from there, but it was also expensive. no sir. oh, this is a picture of my umbrella having a mind of its own.
leaving the cooper-hewitt with the two coolest professors ever...tim speaker and jane dorn. seriously, these two are why i am the designer i am. awesome individuals.
off to the guggenheim. jivan is happy.
awesome interior. half of it was closed off for construction, but it had pretty cool stuff in it. a lot of performance art. i hate performance art, so i didn't really enjoy this one as much as the other museums we went to, but i loooooved the building, so it's all good.
waiting for our train.
later that night, we stopped by grand central station to get to little italy and chinatown. such a beautiful place! too bad this picture is blurry.
times square! after we got cheap scarves and crap, we stopped by there to wonder around. there were giant stairs at one end, which provided us with quite the view.

we headed back to the hotel pretty early so we could get up and head to the today show the next morning. i had originally planned on wearing tights under my jeans, but because i was so tired that morning, i forgot and man, did i regret it. i could have stood out there longer had i remembered, but nope. we did get on it though!
it's extremely dark, but there we are. i'm pointing. we harassed matt lauer by "poking" him in the ear so i don't think they put us on the actual broadcast. this is off of the website. also, michael forgot to press record, so the dvr didn't record the actual show. that WOULD happen to me.
later that day, we all headed to the moma to see more art. little thing you should know about the moma...their collection is AMAZING! from painting to sculpture to photography...i'm telling you, my mind was blown. example...here is the first picasso we looked at in foundations. also, here is jennifer and i reenacting it for you.
van gogh's starry night. smaller than i thought it would be, but amazing nonetheless.
warhol. nuff said.
we looked at this in art history about a year or two ago and i wasn't impressed. it's definitley cooler in person. plus, the light makes for an awesome subject to shoot.
waiting in line for mamma mia. the show was spectacular, yet a little too flamboyant for my taste. i would have preferred rent, but it's off broadway now...and wicked was sold out. dang.

after the play, we stopped by this jazz club where the les paul trio was playing. we got kicked out within twenty minutes or so because we just sat there not ordering anything. it was cool.
the next day, we went to ICP. we got a personal tour of the museum and school. awesome place.

we could see the empire state building from the corner of ICP...amazing!
the rayban triplets.
after ICP, it was off to see the brooklyn bridge and the statue of liberty.

on the staten island ferry. it wasn't as spectacular as i thought it would be. it was free though, so that's probably why.
i then got inspired to shoot in black and white. it just looks cooler!

favorite shot of the trip. not sure who that guy was, but i love this photo.
on the subway to greenwich village, these guys played in our car. fun times.
greenwich village. love that area!
bike!
this was post andrew w.k. moshing action. so fun, but when you're five foot three, like i am, it's hard to stand your ground when you're getting pushed so hard. at one point jen's teeth were on my cheek because she was pushed up against me. it was hilarious. i couldn't breathe though, so i laughed about it later. so much fun. andrew w.k. is one of the most entertaining shows i've been to in a while. oh, and he had a woman on stage that would dance around like an 80s workout instructor. she was great.

our street we stayed on. 14th street. union square inn. the best.
walking the high line. this picture turned out so well. we look like a big happy family!
central park. standing on a giant rock.
the plaza hotel. jen wanted to pose like macaulay culkin. so she did.
on the plane back to south carolina.

goodbye new york city.
this post was exhausting. i think i'll sit in my bed for the rest of the day. my feet and muscles feel like rocks. no good. hope you enjoyed my detailed description of my trip. it was so fun!
