half & millman...

yesterday was beyond incredible. first of all, it was the last day of classes...which none of us who went to columbia attended. secondly, we stopped by the half & half. thirdly, we got to hear debbie millman speak at the convention center as part of the south carolina AIGA. i'd like to say a couple things about yesterday. it's so refreshing for there to be designers out there so willing to talk to students and feed our brains. nick wilson at the half & half is so open about his experiences, whether it be about design, printing, failing, business, illusions of grandeur, inks, you name it. we literally stood in the shop yesterday and hounded him with question after question. he answered every single one of them. they're having a show next thursday in columbia and i plan on attending on my way to aiken. they are so awesome over there. also, all of us met debbie millman. if you don't know who she is, she's president of the design division of sterling brands. she has a podcast called design matters. she writes for fast company and design observer. as you can see she's highly successful and is probably best friends with everyone over at pentagram. she signed each of our books, or moleskines, last night and she was so kind and humble, it was touching. we got to talk to her for a couple minutes before heading home and it felt like we were hanging out with one of our awesome professors in our art department (new site coming early next year...woop!). i swear, every time we visit columbia, we're exponentially more inspired than the first. keep the awesome events coming, AIGA SC! we love it!
